As a wedding professional, I’d be lying if I said that bridal fashion wasn’t one of my favorite parts of the industry. Nothing makes me happier than arriving to a wedding and finding a wedding dress that’s so unique, so interesting, so representative of that bride and her style that no other dress would suit her. Here are seven wedding dress designers that should absolutely be on your radar as you begin your wedding dress search.
1. Galia Lahav
I always think my brides look like Beyonce, but you can take it up a notch by wearing the same designer that Beyonce wore for her wedding – Galia Lahav. Billowing sleeves, intricate floral detail, and high slits are just some of the common features of this gorgeous line of gowns. Galia Lahav dresses are for the fashion forward bride with a romantic taste that wants something a little different than what mainstream designers are offering. You can try on these dresses at Ivory Bridal Atelier in Houston or at Stanley Korshak in Dallas. A Galia Lahav dress would be most suited for an elegant outdoor affair with an emphasis on floral design.
Berta’s beautiful dresses combine stunning silhouettes with complex modern details. Lace detail, plunging necklines and backs, geometric patterns and jewels – these are not your ordinary wedding dresses. Each dress is unique. I love that they offer dresses with a lot of coverage and other dresses that show some skin – there’s something for every comfort level. Berta also has several beautiful bridal capes, which are a perfect modern improvement upon the veil. You can shop Berta dresses at Bridal Boutique Louisville, Impression Bridal Houston, and Poised Bridal Edinburgh. Berta dresses are versatile and could be worn for an outdoor ranch wedding, or an indoor ballroom wedding, depending on how it was styled.
3. Viktor + Rolf
If there are any Texas brides reading this with a New York fashion taste, I present to you Viktor + Rolf. The photo below is one of their more conservative designs – but they have some more “sculptural” dresses that are truly works of art. Their dresses are for the modern bride that wants to make a statement, but doesn’t need a lot of lace or crystals to do so. Layers of satin fabric, unexpected cuts, and oversized details characterize this outspoken line of dresses. You can try on Viktor + Rolf dresses at Neiman Marcus Dallas or Warren Barron Bridal in Dallas. A Viktor + Rolf dress would be most suited for a downtown city wedding at a glamorous hotel or ballroom.
Marchesa may be one of my favorites on this list. They’re one of the most wearable designers for the Texas bride with a classic taste who just wants something a little more interesting. Angelic tulle, floral details galore, and billowing A-line skirts characterize these romantic dresses. Marchesa dresses make any woman look like an actual princess. Marchesa has three different lines – their Marchesa Bridal Couture line, their lower priced line Marchesa Notte, and their Marchesa line of evening gowns. You can shop Marchesa wedding dresses at Tootsies in Dallas, Neiman Marcus Dallas, Sylvia’s in McAllen, Joe Brand in Laredo, Lovely Bride Houston, Nordstrom Houston, Unbridaled in Austin, and Julian Gold in San Antonio. A Marchesa dress would look beautiful at an upscale estate wedding.
5. Claire Pettibone
I can honestly say I’ve loved Claire Pettibone’s work for years. Her dresses definitely lean more conservative, but without sacrificing any of the “wow” factor. With an emphasis on gorgeous embroidery and tried-and-true silhouettes, her dresses can be described as timeless, classic, and romantic. A Claire Pettibone dress would absolutely shine at an old-world inspired wedding – think al fresco evenings at European inspired villas. You can try on Claire Pettibone’s beautiful handiwork at Unbridaled in Austin.
6. Rita Vinieris
There’s a lot of buzz around this designer right now, thanks to her gorgeous work on Sadie Robertson’s dress and Ashley I’s dress! Rita Vinieris dresses make me think of the type of gorgeous, classic, over the top dress that the lead character would wear at the end of a rom-com. It’s the dress you grew up dreaming of wearing. The perfect old Hollywood vibe. The classic satin billowing dresses that are far from boring. I can picture a Rita Vinieris dress best at a classic church wedding or a stately reception hall with soaring ceilings and violin music wafting through the air. You can find Rita Vinieris dresses at Brickhouse Bridal in Houston, Circle Park Bridal Boutique in The Colony, Julian Gold San Antonio, Lovely Bride Dallas, and Mia Bridal Couture Houston.
7. Monique Lhullier
Monique Lhullier’s dresses are just…dreamy. Trains for days, over the top ruffles, perfectly fluffy skirts and sleeves. Her dresses just photograph so well. Her brand new line pushes the envelope with chic floral patterns, daring fashion conscious brides to break away from the all white tradition. Her dresses are bridal fashion at its best. Honestly, you could wear a ML dress wherever you please – on the steps of a castle, in a mansion, in a garden…quite frankly you could probably wear it on your own couch and make it look incredible. Check her out and thank me later. You can shop Monique Lhullier at Julian Gold in San Antonio, Nordstrom La Cantera, Julian Gold Austin, Neiman Marcus Austin, Nordstrom Houston, Neiman Marcus Houston, Tootsies Houston, Casa de Novia in Houston, Saks Fifth Avenue Houston, Neiman Marcus Fort Worth, Neiman Marcus Direct in Irving, Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas, Warron Barron Bridal in Dallas, Nordstrom North Park Center in Dallas, or Neiman Marcus North Park Center Dallas.
